Calgary, AB – Oct 14, 2025 — Symbiotic AI, a digital health company developing clinical decision support solutions for cardiovascular care, has announced a new research partnership with the University of Calgary and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. This collaboration will serve as the foundation for a series of projects focused on applying artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Coronary artery disease remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. By leveraging advanced AI techniques, the partnership aims to support clinicians in making more precise treatment decisions, streamline workflows in cardiac catheterization laboratories, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

The Ottawa Heart Institute brings deep expertise in cardiovascular medicine through the leadership of Dr. Christopher Sun and Dr. Aun-Yeong Chong. They will play a central role in guiding the validation and trial work of the AI tools emerging from this collaboration.

The University of Calgary's Data Intelligence for Health (DIH) Lab, led by Dr. Joon Lee, will bring technical expertise in AI model development, validation, and federated learning.

The first projects under this partnership will focus on validating AI models that support treatment selection and risk prediction for patients with CAD. Results are expected to inform broader use of AI models in cardiovascular care across Canada and internationally.
